People often get confused between two distinct styles which are techno and electro as they are both electronics sounds. Techno lovers clearly the distinction between the two and almost feel upset when someone don’t see the comparison as techno is seen as a hard type of style with repetitive strong beat whereas electro is seen as music style more for teenagers that jump around in clubs. I personally see techno as a style where people dance and let themselves get carried away by the music and electro as a music style more joyful but that resembles to commercial music.
But what is exactly electro?
It is a genre of electronic music and early hip hop directly influenced by the use of the famous Roland 808 drum machines and funk. Electro is actually one if not the first danceable form of electronic music.
This type of music generally features drum machines and electronic sounds, generally without vocals, and if there are vocals, they are often though electronic distortion such as vocoding and talkboxing. Electro emerged as a fusion of funk and early hip-hop, after the decline of disco in the United states, with the influence from New York boogie, German and Japanese electronic pop music.
In the early 1980s, electro achieve its mainstream peak. By the mid 1980’s the genre moved away from its electronic and funk influences, using harder edged beats mixed with rock samples. Electro became popular again the late 1990’s with famous artists such as Dave Clarke and finally did a third wave of popularity in the year 2007.
Nowadays electro is often listened in clubs, but more by the younger generation. Now you have understood the difference between electro and techno! If not, just listen to Deorro x Chriss Brown – Five More Hours and then listen to Pan-Pot – Riot https://alexiadriol5.wixsite.com/technohouse/music-artists. Not the same.
To conclude, techno and electro and clearly two different styles with time but originally was quite similar as it was both electronic sound effect. People often confuse the two because they don’t take the time to really listen the two styles and state the difference. In my opinion, techno is of richer quality with subtle transitions whereas Electro, as I see it, is less special, we here nowadays a lot of commercial, superficial music style, and I feel that electro is a lot alike but still a fun music style.
